KEN DRACASS

Early Tuesday, May 2, 2011, Ken left his family to find greener pastures to plant his garden. He will be greatly missed by wife Betty, children Brian and Heather (Brian Heinrichs) and the great joy of his life, grandchildren Brenden and Kaeden Heinrichs.

Surviving his memory are his mother, Ethel Dracass, of Nipawin, SK, his sisters Irene (Larry) Stevenson, Shirley (Corny) Ruiter and Helen (Brian) Wiebe, his brothers Barry (Jeanette) Dracass and Bruce (Carol Anne) Dracass, brother-in-law Dan Verbeke plus numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 9 at 2 p.m. at Bethesda Place, 399 Hospital Street in Steinbach.

Elizabeth (Liese) Toews nee Loeppky
Dec. 26, 1920 – May 7, 2011

Surrounded by family, Elizabeth passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 7th, 2011 at Bethesda Place, Steinbach, MB at age 90. She was predeceased by her husband Peter P. Toews in 1995.

She is survived by her daughter Rose (Peter) Doerksen of Winnipeg, their children Bonnie Appelt of Winnipeg and Raymond Doerksen and partner Mike of St. Mary’s, ON; son Allen (Bettie) Toews of Winnipeg, their children Jaime (Darren) Spyksma of Nanaimo, BC and Adam (C0ri Dreger) Toews of Gillam, MB; son Don (Linda St. Godard) Toews of Harcourt, ON and daughter Kimberly Toews of Minden, ON, Billie of North Bay, ON and CJ of Bellville, ON and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Anne Doerksen, in-laws Marie Loeppky, Helen White, Mary and Stan Kehler, Abe and Mary Kehler, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Dr. Reimer and the entire health care team at Bethesda Place and Woodhaven Manor for the care given to Mom during the last 12 years.

GLADWIN PLETT

With sadness in our hearts as well as joy for the completion of a life well-lived, we announce the homecoming of Gladwin Plett. At the age of 81 years, peacefully, with wife Jean and family members at his side, Gladwin went to be with his Lord.

Left to treasure his memory are his wife Jean, children Beverly, Barbara (Conrad) and Brian (Wavenie Brathwaite), and grandchildren Carmen (Adrian), Angie, Amy (Graham), Melanie (Mike), Daniel, Nathan, Shanti, and Devyn, and great-grandchild Marlow. Waiting to welcome him are his father Abram, mother Elizabeth, stepmother Susanna, brother Harold, sister Alvina, and daughter-in-law Sherry.

We would like to thank the staff of Donwood Manor Personal Care Home for their compassionate care of dad in his final months.

ESTHER JOHNSON
May 27, 1928 – May 8, 2011

Esther passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 8th, 2011, after a very brief stay at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach at the age of 82 years..

Esther was predeceased by her husband Wayne Johnson and two brothers. She is survived by her son Edward and her two grandchildren, Jenna and Gary. She is also survived by two sisters, four brothers and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Esther Johnson will be held on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach, MB, with viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow at the Heritage Cemetery.

Sept. 5, 1934 – May 10, 2011

Sarah passed away at Parkview Place in Winnipeg at the age of 76 years.

She was predeceased by her parents Gilbert and Esther (Mezzo) Styve, brothers Knute Styve of Nanaimo, BC and Henry Styve of Sprague, MB and her sister Bertha Dowell of Dartmouth, NS. She is survived by her siblings, Anne (Bill) Fehr of Aylmer, ON, Louis (Sandra) of Aylmer, ON, Norman (Lillian) of Sprague, MB, Melvin (Jeanette) of Woodridge, MB and Wilfred (Alice) of Edinburg, Texas as well as many nieces and nephews.

NIELS ANNELL

Niels Melvin Brian Annell passed away peacefully on May 10, 2011 at Concordia Hospital at the age of 69 years.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lorna (nee Fielberg), four daughters, one son and their families; seven sisters and one brother. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers.

The funeral service for Niels Annell will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, in Steinbach on Monday, May 16, 2011 at 12:00 Noon. Ash burial will take place at a later date at the East Braintree Cemetery.

Kay Warunky (nee Hiebert) of Edmonton, AB passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs John L.F. Hiebert of Steinbach.

Hugh William Allan, 60, of Grunthal passed away at his residence on Wednesday, May 11, 2011.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, one daughter, two sons and their families; and by three sisters, one brother and their families. He was predeceased by his parents and one sister in infancy.

David Wiebe, of Steinbach, former missionary to Bolivia, passed away at Rest Haven Nursing Home on Friday, May 13, 2011 at the age of 90.

He is survived by three daughters, two sons and their families. He was predeceased by his wife Katharina in April 2009.

December 13, 1940 - May 13, 2011

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Phil at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Manitoba on Friday, May 13, 2011 at the age of 70 years.

He was predeceased by his father Edouard, mother Emma, brother Denis and niece Lynne Gobeil-Gawron.

Phil is lovingly remembered by his sisters Thérèse (Robert) and Yvonne (John), brothers Lucien (Monique) and Emile (Donna), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, at St. Viateur Parish in Otterburne, Manitoba. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Surrounded by family, Helen Ottawa-Froese passed away peacefully on Monday, May 16, 2011 at the Vita Personal Care Home at the age of 81 years.

A prolific knitter, there are many Afghans across Canada that will keep her memory alive.

Sincerest thanks to Nick, her partner of 21 years, the staff at the Vita Personal Care Home and Dr. Andrew Cooke.

In keeping with mom’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service.

Mary Baker, 88 years of age, of Calgary, AB, formerly of Selkirk, MB, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the Southwood Hospice, Calgary, AB with the family at her bedside.

She is survived by 11 children: William Verestiuk of Selkirk, MB, Mary-Anne Martens of Calgary, AB, Olga (Nick) Varkerti of Wpg. MB, Rose (Frank) Palahnuk of Wpg. MB., Peter Verestiuk of Selkirk, MB, Johnny Verestiuk of Prince Albert, SK, Patsy Pelletier of Calgary, AB, Joannie (Paul) Still of Petersfield, MB, Richard Werestiuk of Calgary, AB, Sally (Peter) Poels of Wpg. MB and Michael Shoren of Kelowna, BC. She is also survived by her sister, Rose Valainis of Wpg. MB.

She is predeceased by her parents, a son in 1958, her daughter, Jean Verestiuk in 2010, her late husband, Peter Verestiuk in 1986, her second husband, Al Baker in 1995, her sisters and brothers Anne, Lena, John, Sam, Harry and Peter.

There will be a viewing on May 23, 2011 from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Gilbart Funeral Home located at 309 Eveline Street in Selkirk, MB.
