An 18-year-old from the RM of Hanover who applauded the killing of three police officers in Baton Rogue, Louisiana—and seemed to hint at further deaths—was arrested by RCMP on Sunday.

Members of the public informed police of the threat made by Kevin Giesbrecht in the ‘WOW Steinbach’ Facebook group, police said Friday. Steinbach RCMP issued the release in response to a Winnipeg Sun article that said criminal charges against Giesbrecht were dropped.

He was arrested the same day he made the threats at his parents’ residence in the RM of Hanover where he lives.

“Threats of violence towards any person of the general public or, in this case, the police will not be tolerated and are taken seriously,” wrote RCMP in the release.

Giesbrecht’s Facebook post appeared to laugh at the tragedy. In one segment of the post, according to the Sun, he wrote: “Still got 100 of them to go. LMFAO.”
