Early Sunday morning, shortly after 2 a.m., Steinbach RCMP attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 52. Instead of stopping, the driver sped off.
Police stopped their pursuit after due road conditions and concern for public safety but, thanks to a recent snowfall, were were able to follow the vehicle’s tracks and eventually located it entering a property in the RM of Hanover along Road 26N.
Police arrested a 26-year-old man hiding in a field.
The man has been charged with flight from police in motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, impaired operation of a motor vehicle, refusal to provide a breath sample and resisting arrest.
He was released from custody and will appear in Steinbach court on Jan. 15.
