A hog barn fire on Thursday night northeast of Grunthal claimed 1,100 pigs.

Grunthal fire department chief Paul Wiebe says their department was called to fire in the RM of Hanover on Road 29N at about 6 p.m.

The blaze was already fully involved when crews arrived, Wiebe said, adding that additional crews were called in from Kleefeld and New Bothwell to assist. The barn was completely destroyed.
