The Official Opposition’s shadow cabinet finds Portage-Lisgar MP Candice Bergen in the natural resources portfolio, where she will work with fellow Manitoban, Liberal Jim Carr, the file’s minister.

Conservative interim leader Rona Ambrose unveiled her shadow cabinet Friday morning. Bergen will be opposite Carr in the matter of natural resources likely to gain more prominence from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who has made climate change and environmental issues priorities.

Bergen was unsuccessful in her bid for interim leadership after the Conservatives lost the federal election last month. She had served as Minister of State (Social Development) since 2013.

Provencher MP Ted Falk joins Brandon-Souris colleague Larry Maguire, also first elected in the 2013 by-election, as Manitobans not appointed to a Conservative shadow cabinet or a critic post. Selkirk-Interlake-Eastman MP James Bezan receives the key role of national defence critic and Dauphin-Swan Rover-Neepawa MP Robert Sopuck will be critic for wildlife conservation and Parks Canada.

While in power, Falk had roles on public safety and public accounts committees.
