An experienced councillor is seeking the top job in the RM of Hanover.

Eight-year council veteran Clif Bakx of Grunthal is pursuing the reeve’s chair in this fall’s municipal election.

Bakx will have to wrestle the top job from Stan Toews, the 11-year councillor who was first elected as reeve in 2006 and then acclaimed in 2010.

Bakx knew for a couple years he wanted to be involved with the municipality past the 2014 election but added people’s advice encouraged him to consider being reeve.

“They said, Cliffy, we’d really like to see you run for reeve, and not just a couple but a lot of people.

“Reeve is a big responsibility and I have to devote quite a bit of time to it. I had to make sure that I could do it, and I know I can.”

While representing Kleefeld and surrounding area, Bakx said he has examined how the RM is run and believes it can be done more efficiently by taking a business-minded approach.

More on Bakx says he would do if elected reeve in the Sept. 18 edition of The Carillon.
