Mel McManus doesn’t hide the reason behind all the colours and lights at the new dental clinic he opened on Highway 52 in Steinbach.

There’s the video games you can soon play in the lobby. The interactive floor where a footstep can cause imaginary water to ripple. The TV a child can literally watch while lounging in the dentist’s chair.

The reason for all the hoopla? It’s all one big distraction, he admits.

“While they’re getting their teeth cleaned, they can watch cartoons,” explained McManus, while looking up at a television playing the latest Ice Age movie.

“It’s a little over-the-top, but it works.”
