Ste Anne fire crews were called to a house on Gagnier Bay in the town of Ste Anne on Sunday afternoon around 3:45 p.m. after an explosion was reported.

The blast occurred in the garage. Firefighters and an investigator from the Office of the Fire Commissioner were still trying to pinpoint the exact cause as they sifted through debris on Sunday evening.

Ste Anne fire chief Ken Dayment said the force of the loud explosion blew off the garage door and pushed out the north wall of the garage. Fire from the explosion made its way into the attic, where crews were able to get the flames under control. Damage to the house is estimated at around $200,000.
