Steinbach Regional Secondary School graduate Joseph Giesbrecht has come forward as yet another candidate to challenge for a trustee seat in the Steinbach ward.

“Hanover is a community that has an exceptional reputation of commitment to education. It also is known for its close relationship with the community,” Giesbrecht said in a release. “This sense of commitment and connectedness is a strong foundation to ensure a healthy school environment for all involved.”

He says his past experience as an educational assistant has given him insight into the teacher and support staff experience.

“It’s hard work, and teachers need to be empowered to do it well,” he says, “and at the same time, it’s important they know they are appreciated and respected.”

As a parent himself, he says he knows it is important to be involved with your child’s education. He would seek to keep lines of communication open for parents and ensure that they know their involvement and collaboration in their children’s education is central.

Giesbrecht says his present career in the field of architecture “gives him a solid foundation to glean from as Hanover looks to expand and enhance its current infrastructure to accommodate the growing student population.”

Practical planning and implementation of projects in a fiscally responsible manner is an essential policy, he says.

Giesbrecht concluded that ultimately he and his wife Lindsay want to ensure a safe and conducive atmosphere for all children including their daughter, Sara-Lynn, to excel in their education.

“By working together as a community, we can continue to ensure these principles of commitment and connection will endure and thus provide a healthy and collaborative learning atmosphere for all students, which in the end, is our ultimate goal,” he said.
