A large donation of school supplies has been handed over to South East Helping Hands in Steinbach after Staples customers generously donated items. The purpose of this school supply drive is to help students with their education by providing them with the supplies they need.

Hank Klassen of SEHH told The Carillon the collected items are essential for education.

“This will help out a great deal,” Klassen said.

The school supplies will be shared with other groups such as Steinbach Family Resource Centre and Agape House, he added.

Over $3,000 of school supplies was donated on Tuesday afternoon at Staples in Steinbach.

“Considering that 48 percent of people using the food bank are children, this will make a huge impact,” said Candice Cancade, operations manager at SEHH. “We noticed in September our numbers increased, the lineup was a lot longer, and we were giving out more bags. It’s kind of disturbing that the reason we were busier in September was that families were feeling the pinch.”
