Bob Facca walked because he wanted to do something.

Grandpa Bob, as his nickname goes, isn’t a scientist who can find a cure to Duchenne muscular dystrophy, which causes muscular degeneration, so he figured what he could do was create awareness for this horrific disease and raise funds to help find a cure.

Yesterday, Facca ended his 4,000 km walk from Quebec City to Winnipeg and raised more than $700,000 for the cause.

As he was walking down the Trans-Canada Highway near the turnoff to PR 206 on Tuesday, he noted that there’s more hope to find a cure today than decades ago. “That’s what I’m doing it for,” he said. “Grandparents love their grandkids.”
