Over 90 percent of right of ways have been secured for the construction of the 1,400 kilometre Bipole III hydro transmission line.

“We are making good progress in moving forward to build this line, which is critical to providing an affordable, reliable electricity supply to Manitobans,”Hydro vice-president Bryan Luce said in a release this week.

Hydro says voluntary easement agreements have been reached with over 250 private landowners and steps are now being taken to secure the remaining right of way. Those steps now include expropriation, which Hydro says is necessary to meet the targeted in-service date of 2018.

Those in opposition to the project haven’t stopped with criticism. On Tuesday, the Manitoba Bipole Landowner Committee will hold an open house event at the Holiday Inn South from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

According to the notice, advertised on the RM of Hanover website, the purpose of the open house is to bring public awareness of landowner issues to be negotiated with Manitoba Hydro.
