The Hanover School Division is awaiting approval of a conditional use application to allow for five more classrooms to be added at Niverville Elementary School. This is a permanent addition, not portable huts, and it will cover 6,413 square feet.

This will mean the K-4 school would have 24 classrooms. The addition would include washrooms for male and female students and another set of outside doors.

Niverville council heard these details during a public hearing last week. Although there were no community members in attendance who spoke for or against the request, council did ask for more information.

HSD facility manager Bob Proulx was not able to answer many of the questions and council concurred to table the decision until they had an opportunity to review the submission and discuss the information with the Hanover superintendent Randy Dueck.

Council held a private meeting Tuesday late afternoon with Dueck and trustees to further discuss the concerns.

“There was good discussion,” reported mayor Myron Dyck. “We are putting a development agreement together and it will be brought to council on Dec. 2 for approval. Our lawyer will put it together to deal with various issues like sidewalks and landscaping.”

People who attended the hearing will be provided with information acquired at the private meeting, Dyck added.
