A 25-year-old Lorette resident is headed to court next month after what police described as a road rage incident on the Perimeter Highway near Winnipeg at the intersection of Highway 15.

Around 7:30 a.m. Oakbank RCMP responded to a report of two northbound vehicles engaging in excessive speeds, each trying to pass the other, ending with one driver cutting the other off.

At the intersection, while at a red light, it was reported to police that two male occupants exited their vehicle and approached the driver of the other vehicle involved in the incident. After a short exchange, the driver that was approached revealed what appeared to be a semi-automatic pistol and threatened the two males, who proceeded to leave the scene and call police.

The suspect was later located by police. RCMP seized a Colt Defender .177 calibre air pistol.

Ryan James Groening has been charged with pointing a firearm, uttering threats and using a firearm while committing an indictable offence. Groening will appear in Beausejour court on Nov. 17.
