Winnipeg Police announced on Tuesday afternoon that an arrest has been made in the death of Simone Sanderson.

The 23-year-old woman’s body was found concealed on a vacant lot in the area of Main Street and Burrows Avenue in Winnipeg on Sept. 2, 2012.

Police said 28-year-old Kyllan James Ellis of Lorette was arrested yesterday. He has been charged with second degree murder.

Three months after Sanderson’s murder, Ellis was arrested by Ste Anne Police on suspicion of drunk driving on Dec. 8, 2012 and convicted of that offence in March 2013. Ellis’ defence claimed he had chosen to drive home while intoxicated to avoid sexual advances from a man he was drinking with at the Ste Anne bar.
