There will not be a six-storey development built across from Fernwood Place and even the possibility of developing four, four-storey condos projects on the site is headed for further review.

Mike Fast of G&E Homes made the pitch to city council at a public hearing on Tuesday night, asking the city to re-zone four parcels of land at 310, 314,324, and 326 Third Street from residential low density (RLD) to residential high density (RHD).

Council listened, as did many interested residents, who packed the council chamber. Eight individuals spoke in objection to the plan, meaning the matter will likely be headed to a municipal board before final approval can be considered.

Primary concerns centred around loss of privacy, drainage issues, and fears of declining property values.

Council attempted to find middle ground as they came to a decision, approving the project but restricting it to four storeys.

City manager Troy Warkentin indicated that a municipal board hearing would likely be scheduled in two to three months.
