A man has died after becoming trapped under a vehicle in the driveway of a residence on Ash Grove Lane in the east end of Steinbach.

Emergency crews were called to the residence shortly before 7 p.m. Monday night. Steinbach deputy fire chief Ron Chausse confirmed the fatality and said the initial emergency call was for an individual trapped beneath a vehicle.

A large grey Dodge pickup truck was towed from the scene, and a closed section of Ash Grove Lane, just east of Beaverbrook Drive, was reopened to traffic around 8:20 p.m.

RCMP said in a release on Tuesday morning when officers arrived on scene, it was discovered a 49-year-old male had been working on a pickup truck at his residence when the vehicle fell off the supports, pinning him underneath.

Update on May 9 at 12:15 p.m.: Adds information from RCMP press release.
