A routine traffic stop in Steinbach Saturday night led to a stolen vehicle that had evidence of methamphetamine trafficking.

Two adults were arrested as a result of the traffic stop on 4th Street Southwest at 11:40 p.m., near the intersection with Reimer Avenue. The male driver, Jean Pierre Gagnon, and female passenger, Tami Renz, has been released on a promise to appear in court.

The stopped vehicle was stolen from the St Pierre RCMP detachment area, police say. A search of the vehicle unveiled methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, Canadian currency, as well as evidence of identity theft and trafficking methamphetamine.

Gagnon, 32, was charged with possessing methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000, identity theft, driving while disqualified and carrying liquor in a vehicle contrary to the Liquor and Gaming Control Act.

Renz, 33, faces charges of possessing methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000 and identity theft.
