Although the hoopla surrounding last year’s 50th anniversary celebration had subsided, the draw of high-end rodeo action once again brought thousands out to Morris this past weekend for the Manitoba Stampede and Exhibition.

Seven events were again a part of Manitoba’s only professional rodeo. Team roping made its sophomore appearance, joining the usual fare of bull riding, bronco-busting, tie-down roping, bareback riding and steer wrestling.

Popular events like the parade, cabaret and petting zoo all returned. The dairy show was the only notable absence in this year’s festivities. The dairy show was cancelled as a result of some entrants being affected by the flooding in western Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

The Red River bridge on Highway 23 still remained closed for construction, which meant many spectators driving to Morris from the east had to take an alternate route.
