The City of Steinbach’s first phase of the multiplex, including the curling rink and movie theatre, is finally nearing completion.

City manager Troy Warkentin offered some positive words in a short report on the $6.8 million project budget at city council’s Tuesday night meeting.

“According to costs incurred to date the project is still on budget,” said Warkentin.

Warkentin said the city expects the movie theatre to be open in mid-February. The curling rink opened its doors to curlers in October.

Council also gave final approval on Tuesday for the creation of debentures on four city projects completed in 2014: $400,000 for Third Street water and sewer line renewals, $850,000 for Third Street resurfacing, $2,025,000 for the West Side trunk sewer project, and $1,690,000 for Kroeker Avenue reconstruction.
