Two building additions in the Hanover School Division will be ready for the first day of class next month, while the third expansion will need an extension.

The four-classroom addition at South Oaks School in Grunthal and two Kindergarten classrooms at Blumenort School, complete with washroom facilities in both rooms, are set for a September opening, superintendent Randy Dueck told board trustees at their meeting Tuesday.

Public “new facility dedications” are planned for Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 5:30 p.m. in Blumenort and at South Oaks School at 6 p.m. The first day of school is Sept. 7.

The expansion of five classrooms at Niverville Elementary School is scheduled to be ready by late September. That timeline may be pushed into early October if necessary, said Dueck.

In regards to a fourth planned expansion, the school division has been granted approval to open its tendering process for Mitchell Elementary School, which is seeking a four-classroom addition.

Each of these additions were approved to fulfill a provincial obligation that at least 90 per cent of Kindergarten to Grade 3 classrooms have no more than 20 students by 2017.
