Endless hours of donated time along with an abundance of enthusiastic supporters have driven the renovations at the new location for the Steinbach Family Resource Centre.
The family-focused programming will soon be operated out of the new home at 101 North Front Drive along Highway 52.
“The renovations would have cost us more than $400,000 if we were to pay for it,” said executive director Vicki Olatundun as she walked through the nearly completed facility. “Many different companies have stepped up to help make our dream a reality.”
Olatundun repeatedly mentioned G & E Homes as she told The Carillon about the tremendous amount of support that has come forward to help create a comfortable and safe place for families to find various supports.
“G & E Homes put on a breakfast and invited all of their designers, builders, trades people…and that is what started the avalanche of giving,” she said. “This winter was tough and it was long, especially for these people who earn their income seasonally. They have to maximize earning their income during the summer, yet many of them have made time to come here and donate their time.”
Although a lot of smart planning has helped reduce the cost of the project, another $50,000 is needed to pay the bills for the renovations.
“I want to say ‘Thank you’ to every family that has taken part in any fundraiser that we’ve done. The bottle drive, the community BBQ, and any events we’ve put on; thank you for giving us the opportunity to dream. Now the dream is here and we’d like your help to finish it.
“The Steinbach Family Resource Centre is our centre, the centre that we all built.”
One of the few things that has not yet been nailed down is a moving date but Olatundun promised it will happen in August.
