The Town of Niverville is asking residents to continue limiting any lawn watering they may choose to do.

Public works and facilities staff reported on Friday that in the second week of their request to curtail community water use, water reserve amounts at the Spruce Drive treatment plant are within safe limits, but water production still cannot meet the demand.

Niverville first requested a curtail in water use on Aug. 5. By last Monday, the community reservoir was again running at full capacity but the department stated lawn watering should remain limited.

Public works staff say that cooler forecasted weather, along with rain, in the coming days will hopefully reduce pressure on the water treatment system, letting the plant “catch up.”

Long-term enhancements to the plant are ongoing, but staff say the upgrades will take time.

In the meantime, residents are asked to water their lawns conservatively. The public works department recommends that residents with even numbered civic addresses consider watering lawns on even numbered days and citizens living at odd numbered civic addresses only water their properties on odd numbered days.

The growing town’s existing water reservoir was expanded in 2012 to provide an additional 1.2 million litres of storage.
