With a petition of 125 names, a delegation presented Niverville town council a request for a crosswalk to be installed on Hampton Drive at the south entrance near the bus stop. Council heard the delegation voice safety concerns and suggestions.

“They’re not asking for overhead lights,” said councillor Myron Dyck. “They’re asking for painted lines and a few signs to indicate pedestrians crossing.”

There are a number of vehicles stopping at that location to drop off children or pick them up with the school bus stop at the corner. People voiced concerns of vehicular traffic continuing while children are crossing the street.

“But there’s no passing allowed on a crosswalk and that would make it safer,” Dyck added.

The cost of signs, paint and labour is deemed as minimal and the community operations committee was given the task of dealing with the issue.
