After years of discussion, surveys and a lot of research, Niverville Town Council has announced its plan to bring an outdoor aquatic centre to the community. The pool is the first phase of the redevelopment of the Community Campus at the arena site.

“The proposed project will include five swimming lanes, a lazy river feature, a zero entrance area, pool perimeter concrete decking, waterslides, spray features, a diving board, and a change room structure that will also contain the mechanical equipment,” councillor Myron Dyck told the public at an information event yesterday.

Council decided to go with an outdoor pool rather than an indoor facility because of operational costs.

The outdoor aquatic facility is expected to cost $2 million. The town has already set aside a quarter of that amount and is promising there will not be any new taxes added to property tax bills to cover the remaining costs.

Former mayor Clare Braun was introduced to the public as the fundraising chairperson. Council is still looking to fill other key roles on the committee.
