Forget about that pool party. It appears the plan was all wet.

Niverville has cancelled plans to build an outdoor aquatic park after just last year announcing plans for the project. The town was prepared to invest $500,000 in aquatic park, with another $1.6 million expected to come from other fundraising.

However, council now says feedback has shown them a more multi-purpose recreational facility, would get greater community support.

The town issued an open letter to residents over the weekend.

Council’s original $500,000 commitment will now be invested in a community splash park at Hespeler Park. The letter indicated plans are already well underway to have the project completed this summer.

The splash park is to be part of a first phase which will also include a field house to be used for activities like soccer, a running track, and an indoor play structure. Plans are also being made for phase two, “an enhanced winter ice sports facility.”

A recreation committee has been struck for the consultation, design, fundraising, and construction of the new facility.

The town is welcoming more community volunteers to contact them if interested and encourages residents to take part in future community consultations.
