The St Pierre RCMP satellite office in Niverville is re-opening after being closed for two years.

The office, which has been closed since December 2014, will reopen Jan. 23, operating Monday thru Friday from 1:15 p.m. to 5 p.m.

“We’re going to see our satellite office here in town re-staffed,” said Mayor Myron Dyck. “We’re very excited about that.”

Dyck said the office will be staffed by a municipal employee who will split their time between Niverville and the RM of Tache as part of a shared cost initiative.

The office will be able to perform administrative duties like child abuse registry checks.

“So, now, instead of having to drive to St Pierre to their office, that’s something we can do right here in town. It’s some of those administrative things,” said Dyck.

Both Niverville council and community residents have been vocal about having a greater police presence in town and Dyck said the satellite office may help with that.

“What we’re also looking forward to is seeing a greater police presence in town. We know that the RCMP—in the past—if they’ve had administrative duties, rather than going back to their detachment office in St Pierre, they use the office here,” said Dyck.

“That would mean if there are calls in town, there would be a greater amount of time where we would have a police officer in the community that could attend a call without having to come from St Pierre because they were doing paperwork.”

The office is located at 309 Bronstone Drive and the phone number is 204-388-6091.
