More details on the Maniotba-Minnesota Transmission Project are available at Manitoba Hydro’s second round of open houses being held throughout the Southeast. This week sees Hydro employees stopping by Vita on Tuesday, Piney on Wednesday, and La Broquerie on Thursday to explain the narrowed down possible routes, and answer questions ot take suggestions people may have. The meetings continue Apr. 29 in Dugald, Apr. 30 in Marchand, and May 6 in Lorette before wrapping up in Headingly and Winnipeg.

This third major transmission line to Minnesota is planned to run from the Dorsey converter station west of Winnipeg to a border crossing south of Piney. Depending on the final preferred route chosen by Hydro at the end of this year, it will carry power to be sold to the U.S. near the communities of Dugald, Anola, Dufresne, Ste Genevieve, Richer, La Broquerie, Marchand, Sandilands, and Piney.

Hydro will be compensating private landowners in one-time payments for transmission line easements and one-time tower payments for loss of annual production. The 40 to 60-metre towers will be spaced an average of 400 to 500 metres apart to carry the 500-kilovolt line. The project is expected to be completed and running by 2020.
