Theresa Oswald continues to clean up delegate support in southern Manitoba although she appears to be falling behind Steve Ashton in the constituency delegate race.
Oswald won the six delegate slate in Morris Monday night, as well as six more from the Lac du Bonnet constituency to aid her chances at the leadership convention Mar. 8.
The former jobs and economy minister’s victories Monday follows previous rural wins in Dawson Trail, La Verendrye and farther west in Portage, Lakeside, Agassiz, Spruce Woods and Arthur-Virden.
Steve Ashton claimed the delegates in Steinbach and Emerson.
Although Oswald has garnered several victories in southern Manitoba, Ashton and Premier Greg Selinger have made things interesting in Winnipeg, more northern ridings and amongst unions.
Total delegate counts during the final week of NDP delegate selection meetings, which includes youth support, are anyone’s guess as the three camps have supplied conflicting results.
Oswald’s camp says Ashton has more than 470 delegates and their candidate is about 50 delegates behind, while Ashton’s campaign believes the gap between the two individuals is closer to 90 people, reports the Winnipeg Free Press.
Selinger lags behind the other two candidates.
However, if you consider union allotments, Selinger ascends to the top of the pack.
With discrepancies in delegate numbers and the unpredictability of union support, which hopeful will be selected party leader in under two weeks’ time is uncertain.
