Pioneer Days will take you back in time this long weekend at Mennonite Heritage Village.

Steinbach’s 47th annual Pioneer Days parade kicks off the weekend, as it makes its way down Steinbach’s Main Street today at 10 a.m.

The rest of the weekend is filled food, fun and traditional pioneer demonstrations, like bread baking in an outdoor oven, horse-powered log sawing, steam-powered activities, shingle making by the sawmill, and well drilling.

Try some delicious Russian Mennonite food at the Livery Barn, including MHV’s famous waffles with vanilla sauce and rollkuchen with watermelon. There will also be hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries, and ice cream to snack on.

Children can enjoy magic and comedy by Mr. Ken, inflatable bouncers, games, face painting, story time, and a petting zoo.

There are also horse drawn wagon, buggy rides, and guided tours throughout each day.

The Rock Ridge Pickers, Walk the Line, The Cracked Egg Shell, Cold Hard Cash, and the Janzen Boys are all scheduled to perform under the tent.

Stop by the crokinole tournament at the Village Centre. While you’re there, don’t forget to check out the family history station to research your family history.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the weekend. For full schedule of events and admission prices visit mennoniteheritagevilage.com.
