Twenty people were told to put down their phone Thursday by the RCMP.
A distracted driving initiative by Steinbach RCMP and “D” Division Traffic Services nabbed 20 drivers between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday in Steinbach and surrounding areas. The individuals were charged with distracted driving, a violation of the Highway Traffic Act.
In one case, a driver from Steinbach told a cop she used her phone to “do quick math,” which prompted the RCMP on social media to say the woman’s calculations now equal “$203.80 for distracted driving.”
