Providence University College did not get cold feet when they appointed a leading expert on hypothermia as their new board chair.
Dr. Gordon Giesbrecht, who was famously nicknamed “Professor Popsicle” for his renowned research examining physiological responses to exercising in extreme environment, has been named the new chairman of the Providence board of governors.
Now in his fifth year as member of the board, Giesbrecht brings 23 years of post-secondary experience through his career as a professor of thermoregulation at the University of Manitoba. He has authored over 100 publications and has appeared on the “Late Show with David Letterman,” “Good Morning America” and the “Rick Mercer Report.”
Evidence-supported decisions will guide Giesbrecht in his new capacity, he said.
“I’m all for innovation and am happy to support initiatives that indeed are evidence-based, fitting within our mandate and supporting our values.”
