Providence will host the third annual Sustainable Energy Conference on next Wednesday.

The theme of the event is “Sustainable Energy in Manitoba Schools,” and the green projects in use at Providence, including a biomass burner and geothermal system, will be showcased as part of the gathering.

“When you start to add up all those uses, in all the schools in our province, they’re an important part of our energy consumption,” said Bruce Duggan, director of the Providence-based Buller Centre of Business. “Our schools use quite a bit of energy.”

He cites light, heat, bus use and the power required for computers and other equipment as major consumers.

“If we’re going to expand our renewable energy use in Manitoba our schools play an important part,” he said.

The conference will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on May 27 at the Otterburne campus.
