Due to recent snowfall, a winter nutrient application ban has been implemented throughout Manitoba effective Nov. 19, Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship advises.

The ban continues until midnight on April 10 and applies to all forms of nutrients including livestock manure and inorganic fertilizer.

A previous variance that extended the window on nutrient application until midnight Nov. 20 has been rescinded.

Producers are reminded that additional information on nutrient application restrictions can be accessed online at www.manitoba.ca/nutrientdates.

Restrictions are designed to ensure nutrients are not applied when the ground is frozen and/or snow-covered and to protect the water quality of Manitoba’s lakes and rivers by reducing nutrient loading to waterways.
