Steinbach RCMP provided a rare detailed account of the impaired drivers they arrested this past weekend to media Monday morning, which included a collision between a car and quad.

Late Sunday morning, the driver of a quad sustained fairly serious injuries when he was thrown from his vehicle after being struck by a car travelling westbound on Provincial Road 303. The drivers of both vehicles, who were both heading west along the same road, were found to be intoxicated.

The driver of the quad was transported to Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach to tend to his injuries. The car’s driver was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm. His breath sample was almost triple the legal limit. The male is in custody and appearing in a Winnipeg courthouse today.

The collision occurred at the intersection of PR 303 and Road 32E.

In the early morning on Saturday, police noticed a vehicle swerving on Main Street near Hespeler Street in Steinbach. Once the vehicle reached the middle of the signalled intersection, he came to a complete stop. The driver proceeded on Main Street where a traffic stop ensued.

The male driver was escorted to the Steinbach detachment to provide breath samples but he refused to cooperate and became violent with police. Along with the regular drunk driving charges of impaired operation and driving while over the legal limit, he has been charged with assaulting a police officer. He will be in Steinbach court on Nov. 6, 2014.

A vehicle spotted swerving down Hanover Street in Steinbach was stopped around 3 a.m. on Sunday. The female driver was arrested for impaired operation of a vehicle. Her breath sample was double the legal limit. She will make her first appearance in Steinbach court on Oct. 23, 2014.
