RCMP seek Niverville machete attack suspect

RCMP say Wiebe has been located and arrested without incident in Morden by the Morden Police Service.

RCMP are seeking to locate a man who may be in the Morden/Winkler area believed to be a suspect in a machete attack on Jan. 3 in Niverville where a homeowner was assaulted during a break and enter.

Police said James Thomas Wiebe, 25, from Niverville, is considered armed and dangerous. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Wiebe has been charged with robbery, break and enter, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, possession of weapon dangerous to the public, disguise with intent and five counts of failure to comply with recognizance.

RCMP arrested and charged two other men in relation to the incident.

Tyler Kenneth Sawatzky, 22, from Steinbach, was arrested on Jan. 11 and charged with robbery, break and enter, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, possession of weapon dangerous to the public and disguise with intent.

Jonah Daniel Wiens, 21, from Niverville, was arrested on Jan. 12 and charged with robbery, break and enter, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, possession of weapon dangerous to the public and disguise with intent.

Both Sawatzky and Wiens have been remanded into custody.
