Ritchot has a new mayor and two other new faces on council following Wednesday’s byelection.

The vote put an end to over two months in which much municipal business was left on hold, after the resignation of former mayor Jackie Hunt and councillors Jeannot Robert and Ron Mamchuk.

Robert, who was acclaimed to return to his Ward 3 seat, will be joined by Mamchuk again on council, but their former mayor will not.

Chris Ewen is the municipality’s new mayor after collecting 742 to Hunt’s 650. Gene Whitney garnered 413 votes, while Marianne Curtis secured 106. More than half of Ewen’s votes (394) came from Ward 1 alone.

Shane Pelletier is the new councillor for Ward 1 after getting 333 votes. Larry Niebel collected 256. Ernie Dumaine, who lost his council seat after the province made the decision to dissolve the previous council, received 71 votes. Phil McDonald scored 50 tallies of support.

Mamchuk’s return to Ward 2 was sealed after he garnered 224 votes. His closet competitor, Jeff Egan, finished with 190. Robert Doiron and Karen Jorgenson had 122 and 43 respectively.

Janine Boulanger is the new face for Ward 4. She outpaced Elmer Hywarren with 142 votes to his 127. Corinne Webb, who like Dumaine lost her seat when the previous council was dissolved, earned 78 votes.
