The Steinbach Arts Council has delivered a fresh crop of talent to populate its annual concert series with some old favourites and new additions as part of announced line-up.

Season ticket holders will be treated to five shows this year, with a trio of additional shows also expected in the coming months including SAC’s Turnip the Music event set for Sept. 19 and featuring local bands Paisley and Suitcase Shoes.

The main concert series will kick off on Sept. 29 with Marie-Josée Lord. The Quebec singer is headed to western Canada as part of the Prairie Debut program which connects rising musical stars from across the country with prairie audiences.

She will be followed in November by magician Chris Funk who will perform on Nov. 5 with some other local celebrities in a Las Vegas themed night, modelled after the arts council’s gala evening earlier this year where Funk also appeared.

In December, the WSO returns to Steinbach for their popular Holiday Pops concert which will also feature Roy and Rosemary, a duo familiar to Steinbach audiences who performed last year in a special fundraising concert for SAC.

Manitoba Theatre Centre has scooped up a popular show from Prairie Theatre Exchange’s previous season and will remount The Hound of the Baskervilles, a mad-cap comedic version of the Sherlock Holmes tale. The famous detective arrives in Steinbach on Feb. 16.

Metis fiddler Sierra Noble will close out the concert series on March 1 with a mixture of fiddling and folk-pop songs.

The PTE Robert Munsch show, this year titled “Mission Munschpossible,” returns on Jan. 15.

Plans are also in the works for a special showcase on April 28 called “mainstage@home” which will feature several local artists in a fundraising event for the recently announced Steinbach performing arts centre project.
