Teacher salaries in the Seine River School Division will increase by two per cent over each of the next three years after settling a new deal with its teachers.

Seine River Teachers’ Association president Jonathan Waite confirmed that membership ratified the new three-year collective agreement with 91 per cent support on Oct. 14. Seine River teachers approved the deal the same day.

Aside from salary increases, which put Seine River on par with similar deals reached by Seven Oaks and St James-Assiniboia school divisions, the new agreement also improves teacher wellness and teacher welfare, Waite explained.

Highlights of the agreement, as explained in a union newsletter, include increasing the maximum accumulation of sick leave days from 125 to 130 days and expanding the scope of family medical leave and compassionate leave, among other teacher-friendly improvements.

Waite said the tentative deal must still be finalized and signed.

The previous contract expired in June so terms of new contract are retroactive as of July 1. The new agreement will expire on June 30, 2017.
