A local senator has been elected deputy chair of the transport and communications committee.

Landmark native Don Plett, a former Conservative Party of Canada president, was elected second-in-command of the Senate standing committee last week. Liberal Dennis Dawson is chair.

The transport and communications committee has been one of the most newsworthy Senate committees of late. They have held more than 15 meetings nationwide soliciting feedback on the challenges facing the CBC. The committee is expected to issue a report next year on its findings.
