A whirlwind four days of singing came to a close Sunday night for the Eastman Youth Choir.

The vocal chords of the almost 40 singers are taking a well-deserved break today after the choir of top high school choral students in southeastern Manitoba took their musical stylings to local schools and numerous concert venues in only a few days.

The choir’s first two days were spent at local schools and then they took part in a school choral workshop and concert Friday night in Steinbach.

On Saturday, the singers met in Winnipeg for concerts at the Legislative Building, the Forks and then recorded a CD at Canadian Mennonite University that will soon be available for purchase.

They sung at a United Church in Winnipeg on Sunday morning, then returned to the Southeast to sing at the Niverville Heritage Church before a grand finale dessert concert brought about 150 people to Landmark’s Heartland Community Church for a smattering of classical songs and church hymns.

Local students in Grade 9-12 apply each year to join the next batch of the Eastman Youth Choir, which is celebrating its 25th year in existence. Members develop their skills in an intensive choral setting, highlighted by a weekend concert series.
