Steinbach and surrounding area faced a deluge during the lunch hour on Friday.

The city was hit with upwards of 50mm of rain in only 20 minutes.

Some of the hardest hit areas included Main Street and Loewen Boulevard. Vehicles were stalled and motorists took alternate routes to avoid getting stuck themselves.

Anywhere between 2-4 inches of rain fell on most areas of Steinbach, according to several reports. A total of 4.5 inches was reported this afternoon in Kleefeld.

The rainstorm in Steinbach began shortly after 11:30 a.m. and continued for more than an hour. The storm system headed east from the city after that.

By 1 p.m., the water was beginning to recede rapidly and within an hour many of the flooded roads had largely cleared up.
