The snow is on the ground and colder weather has moved into the Southeast, possibly making it easier for people to fall into the spirit of Christmas. Musical group Soul Purpose is hoping to add to that Christmas spirit with a concert this weekend that will support the local food banks as well as the many Christmas Hampers that are expected to go out next month.

On Saturday evening, the Mennonite Heritage Village will be filled with songs of praise and enough holiday favourites to steer one’s thoughts toward Christmas which is only four weeks away. Admission to the concert is by donation of a new, unwrapped toy or a non-perishable food item.

These donations will support the Steinbach and Grunthal food banks as well as the families served by these organizations.

Hamper registration shows around 300 families and individuals needing a little extra help this time of year. That number is expected to climb significantly. Last year, 925 hampers were given out.

Organizers are hoping to receive all registrations by the end of this month. Registration forms can be found online at www.steinbachcommunitychristmas.com or at various businesses throughout the region. Donations are also accepted online.

Steinbach Community Christmas covers most of the Southeast region.
