A fundraiser has been established for Dan and Filomena Clara after a string of incidents have shaken the Steinbach couple, culminating in an unexpected emergency surgery that saved Filomena’s life.

A survivor of a fatal motor vehicle accident four years ago, Filomena went in for what was expected to be a routine hernia operation last month. The surgery was supposed to alleviate years of internal injuries stemming from that fatal accident.

But the surgery at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach didn’t work as it should have. About a week later, she was rushed to emergency, this time at St Boniface. The surgeon found her bowel was nicked during the Steinbach operation and she was leaking bile.

The 12-hour surgery saved her life.

Throughout this struggle, her husband has been unsuccessful recuperating his wrecked ankle after an accident several months ago. Dan’s ankle became infected, and he still cannot walk without assistance.

Without work, the family is struggling financially. A fundraiser was recently created on their behalf. You can donate at www.youcaring.com/empty-pockets.
