A week after returning from a trip to Israel, Provencher MP Ted Falk spoke in support of the country in its latest conflict with Palestine.

Falk drew a standing ovation from the more than 600 pro-Israel supporters at the Asper Jewish Community Campus in Winnipeg Monday night.

“Hamas uses people to protect their weapons, while Israel uses weapons to protect its people,” said Falk to loud cheers.

In a prepared speech, Falk spoke of the delegation he was a part of that visited Israel earlier this month as guests of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs. At one point, Falk and company descended to a bomb shelter when they heard sirens go off, which indicate rocket attacks from Hamas militants.

Falk described himself and his government as a “friend of Israel” and expressed sympathy for both Palestinians and Israelis who have been victims of this war.
