Former La Broquerie chief administrative officer Larry Tetrault is headed back to the La Broquerie council chambers, this time as a member of municipal council.

Tetrault bested Eric Wiens in a byelection yesteday to fill the Ward 2 councillor seat made vacant by the resignation of councillor Ken Tallaire.

Tetrault scored 424 votes to Wiens’ 218 in the Wednesday vote.

In last October’s municipal election, Tetrault was narrowly defeated by Lewis Weiss for the reeve’s chair. Weiss topped Tetrault by 29 votes in a three-way race that also featured former La Broquerie councillor Cornie Goertzen.

Tetrault’s work as CAO was criticized in a 2008 report by the Auditor General of Manitoba. He left his position with the municipality in 2006 after negotiating a $190,000 severance package.
