Three people were taken to hospital on Sunday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Road 29E and Road 24N southeast of Grunthal.

Emergency crews responded to the incident at about 2:15 p.m.

Traffic is controlled by a stop sign at the intersection for vehicles travelling on Road 24N. St Pierre RCMP Cst. Dan Roy said it appears one of the vehicles failed to stop and was struck by the other oncoming vehicle.

A Honda Civic and a Chevrolet pickup truck both came to rest in the northeast ditch of the intersection. The passenger side of the car sustained significant damage.

Roy said the driver of the Honda Civic was transported to Winnipeg hospital by STARS air ambulance. The driver’s passenger and the driver of the truck, both female, were taken to hospital in Steinbach by ground ambulance. Roy described the condition of both occupants of the car as “unresponsive,” while the driver of the truck was “responsive” on the scene.

The intersection was closed until about 4 p.m.
