Batten down the hatches, everyone. Zombies were spotted roaming the backcountry southeast of Steinbach on Sunday.

Thankfully for the campers who happened to attend last weekend’s Zombie Survival Camp, they were taught exactly how to survive a possible uprising of the undead.

About 20 campers spent three days on the property of CD Trees learning how to outsmart and outlast the living dead—if a zombie apocalypse ever happened, of course.

The instructors describe the weekend camp, which culminated with a large scale simulation, as an entertaining way to present real-life survival skills.

“A regular survival school can be kind of off-putting, it can be serious and intense,” said Dominic Etynkowski. “Zombies are always fun, so we sort of mix the two.”

Campers also spent the weekend learning how to use a bow and arrow, make shelter, and other basic combat abilities, among other skills.

The trip to the Steinbach area was the Zombie Survival Camp’s first visit outside Ontario. The instructors say they are planning to return next year.
