A Ste Anne school trustee for the past 16 years is enrolled in a new type of school board—a new class, if you will.

Seine River School Division trustee Theresa Bergson has been elected Region 3 director of the Manitoba School Board Association. The geographically vast area comprises the Seine River, Hanover, Sunrise, Whiteshell, Interlake, Lord Selkirk, Lakeshore and Evergreen school divisions.

With her kids out of high school, Bergson said she has more time to pursue this opportunity.

“I want to grow personally, that’s part of it, and I really want to see how as a provincial body we can represent not just the parent but the student, too,” she said.

Bergson was chosen through a by-election. Her term lasts from this month until March. If it goes well, she said she may run again.

The MBSA advocates the work of individual school boards and champions public education in the province.
