A male driver blew through a stop sign in Friedensfeld Sunday evening, crashing into a vehicle and sending both drivers to hospital.

Charges are pending against the driver of a red car that ran through a stop sign northbound on Road 35E and struck a westbound car on Provincial Road 303, said Steinbach RCMP Cst. Iain Macleod. The two vehicles landed in the northeast ditch around 11:30 p.m.

Both occupants are stable.

The driver of the red car was taken to hospital to be checked out. STARS air ambulance took to Winnipeg the male driver of the vehicle that was struck. He sustained a broken leg.

Macleod notes the injuries could have been worse.

“For what we have here, it easily could have been fatal,” said Macleod. “You’ve got to stop at the stop signs.”

Alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as a cause. The police’s investigation continues.
